  • Update April 3

It’s been a bit quiet on our blog…

Since Jitze left on March 24, we haven’t posted anything on our weblog. It’s not that we haven’t been busy since, but our life got back to ‘normal’ and we were mostly busy with working, volunteering, etc. So, there weren’t too many ‘kodak’ moments, like there were during Jitzes stay.

Last week, however, we did take some pictures and made some video recordings, because Judith was very busy rehearsing with her choir; the annual spring concerts were on their way. After some wonderful practices on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, the Aurora Chorealis gave two amazing concerts on Wednesday and Thursday night.

    Videos

We also have two videos for you guys. The first one is made at the Meltdown party at the Snow Castle. A local band named the Skinnys performed a song with very interesting lyrics to it.  The crowd was awesome on this last day of the SnowKing Festival!

The second one is from Judiths choirs concert.

Some more material on the concert

    • A video of ‘Sparrows’ by Carmen Braden, during our dress rehearsal
    • Pictures of the concert by Shane Keller

    Again a mixture

    We have pictures from:

    • going to the Elks
    • our road trip with Robyn and Travis on the Ingraham Trail
    • caribou carnival
    • aurora photos, taken in the nights from March 20 to 21 and March 21 to 22, just right outside our apartment on the Yellowknife Bay

  • Photos March 19

    A bit of everything

    This post contains pictures of:

    • Ice fishing on Wednesday March 17
    • Dogsledding Wednesday March 17
    • our hike on Thursday March 18 (Frame Lake trail, Jackfish Lake)
    • Aurora watching in the night from March 18 to March 19

  • Movie!

    Take two

Yup. I ‘ve tried it once again. I already made a movie about our hotelroom back in the beginning of our Canadian adventure, but since that was loading every single time you opened the page it was absorbing bandwidth, both for the downloader (which in Yellowknife is not good since we have download limits) and it created a lot of website traffic (which is limited as well for us). But don’t worry. The new solution is just fine, for you guys and for us.

    How to watch it

If you click on the first link, if all is well you’ll just click on the link, it’ll open in a new window and you’re able to watch it. This shoudl be your preferred method.

Alternatively, if you click on the second link, the movie will download (about  3,5 minutes) and you will be able to play it with your favourite player (VLC or Windows Mediaplayer or something alike). Only use when the first link doesn’t work for you, although this second video may have a slightly better quality (yes, I am a nerd)

If by any chance neither of the links is working, e-mail or facebook or msn us and we’ll help you out later!

  • Pictures from our Helicopter trip

You had to wait a day

Since we did more fun stuff you guys had to wait a day (or maybe 2 from European perspective) to see our pictures from our helicopter trip. We already had quite a few questions about it, so without further delay: enjoy!

  • Pictures March 12 including pictures taken by our guest photographer: Jitze!

    Guest pictures

Jitze has arrived in Yellowknife! 16 hrs too late, but after a good night of sleep we went out today for lunch at Bullocks Bistro and a walk by Pilots’ monument, Air Tindi, Joliffe Island and the Snow Castle. And of course Jitze was the first to score a picture with His Royal Highness, the Snow King! Enjoy!

  • A small update and photos

    Again?

Yup. Again. Only 2 days after our last post a new post with new pictures. March break has begun so we have time for fun things. Also, the weather is still unhealthy warm, especially in the sun, when ambient temperatures of a few degrees above the freezing point can easily be obtained. These temperatures make it easy to be outside and do all sorts of fun things. You’ll see!

    Party!

Last week we had dinner at Virginia and Marcos’ place. Virginia is the head janitor at Sir John. It turned out to be a dinner party, on which we met quite a few new people. One of the persons, Minda, invited us to her birthday party, which was last Saturday (March 6). The party allowed us to some ballroom dancing, salsa & merengue dancing….. fun! I may forgot to mention that Marcos is from Cuba, Virginia from Columbia, Minda is Fillipinian. Despite all those nationalities, the Dutch, Dutch former colonies and people from Dutch descendency were far in the majority on her party. We keep tripping over them wherever we go!

    Invitations

And of course you talk to everybody on the party, including the people with Dutch roots, and before you know it you’re invited to come over (the same night) since “we’re living somewhere on the Ingraham trail, a 35 minutes drive outside of the town and you see beautiful aurora at our place”. When we mentioned we never snowmobiled the answer was:  “Ohw, then we’ll take you on a trip. We have two of them”. And where some people may hesitate (We don’t know them and more yada yada yada) we learned to accept those invitations and go with the flow. And it pays. Look at the 28 pictures in this post. It truly was one of those days among the best days we have had in Yellowknife!

A series of photos featuring the snow castle. Judith helped out for one afternoon and we went to the opening of the Snow King Festival. Awesome! Seriously: AWESOME! Lots of people, lots of cars on the ice, which was kind of awkward, but since they actually have a parking lot at the Snow Castle, we figured it should be OK. But still you are surrounded by tons and tons of automobiles….. The opening of the festival had a very decent firework show, so enjoy the pictures we took!
