  • Jon’s visit, Crash Test Dummies and more!

    Hello everyone! All is well!

We had a couple of fun weeks. Judith’s friend Jon (they met way back in 1997 during Judith’s high school exchange in London, Ontario) whom she hadn’t seen for more than 10 years, came up to the true North to visit for a week (from Feb. 5th – Feb 12th). Fun times! We had great weather, and of course we went dogsledding (a must for visitors!), Northern Lights watching and hiking up to the Cameron Falls.

But there was more that happened, which we captured in photos. Enjoy the pictures below.

First of all: to all of you a Happy New Year! We have been busy over New Years’, baking “oliebollen”,  hanging out with friends, dog sledding, more aurora watching and what not more! It is almost time to start working again. Just before we get less time again, one more update with some nice pictures. Enjoy!

Another post with a lot of pictures. During Harma’s stay, we’re doing a lot of things to show her around. In the upcoming week Judith needs to work and Bas really needs to do some preparation for the second part of the school year, so we probably won’t have a huge photo update next week. But boy, we did a lot of fun things:

    • We saw a lunar eclipse, out at Cassidy Point.
    • Harma and Bas went out on the highway down south, for a bison safari (with success!)
    • We went to St. Pat’s to see Myles (one of Bas’ collegues) feed the snake in his classroom
    • We went to a Ugly Christmas sweater party in the Black Knight
    • We went to Prelude Lake, to attend a small party and do some snowmobiling
    • We had Christmas dinner at Emma and Camille’s place
    • After a few tries taking Harma outo to see the Nothern Lights, we finally saw them! Awesome and so much better than you can ever see in a picture or a movie!
    • We drove to the end of the Ingraham Trail, where the ice road on Tibbitt Lake starts
    • We went to the Cameron Falls, which were frozen over! (That was much nicer than you can actually see in the pictures!)

Note: Some of the pictures are larger than the others. Allthough in the last post we incorporated all Harma’s pictures nicely, the pictures in this post are taken with Harma’s new camera, which makes pictures at another resolution than Harma’s old(er) camera. When converting, I used the old “31%”. We found after everything was done….. so I am not feeling like redoing all the pictures and all the comments with it. Enjoy and scroll where necessary. 🙂

Here are some new pictures! Quite a few of them are made by, or include, our current guest: Harma! Enjoy!

  • Christmas concert photos!

Please check out  these photos on Life in the Knife. Shane is our official choir photographer and took, once again, some awesome pictures!

  • Photo update December 12

Time for pictures! There’s so much going on these days, it’s hard to keep up with! The usual: work, work, work, gym, dinner, teaching ballroom dance classes (Bas), choir practice (Judith), and the more unusual: the Christmas parade, Bas’ birthday party, celebrating Sinterklaas with friends, the Christmas concerts by Judith’s choir, fun get-togethers with friends, Bas’ work’s Christmas party and more… Unfortunately, sometimes we forgot our camera or didn’t remember to take any pictures, but here are a few highlights of the last couple of weeks.

We are looking forward to Harma’s arrival on Wednesday the 15th. It is going to be great to be able to show her around Yellowknife and surroundings and have her experience the North! We will keep you posted with more pictures and stories, since we’ll probably have a bit more time on our hands to do so. Bas has only one more week of teaching to go and will then have 2 weeks off. Judith takes a couple of days here and there to spend time with Bas and Harma. It will be good!

  • Photo update November 14

Don’t worry: we haven’t forgotten about our weblog and we are doing well! There are several reasons why we didn’t post an update for a while now. First of all, last month went by very fast. Since we now both have a fulltime job, our life has definitely become busy and ‘normal’ at the same time. We still have the weekends and evenings to do fun stuff, but sometimes we’re only relaxing after a week of hard work. There aren’t many ‘new things’ that we do or things of which we think are worthy taking a picture of. And sometimes, we just forget our camera. Therefore, here is a small selection of pictures we took over the last couple of weeks.

  • Photo update October 17th

Guess what… time for more photos! Even though Bas and I are now both spending our weeks working full-time, we still find time to do fun stuff (mostly in the weekends, though!)

Last weekend was Thanksgiving (and we enjoyed our traditional Turkey dinner with our friends and downstairs neighbours Colin and Jason). And this weekend we spent a very relaxing time with Vincent and Jesse (and their puppy Tulip) up at their cabin, a short half-hour drive outside of Yellowknife. A beautiful place. The photos we took say it all!

Oh.. and it snowed on Thursday, it has not been above zero (Celsius), so it stayed. More snow actually is falling at the moment (Sunday night). Winter is here! We like it! 🙂

I know you have all been waiting for these! Pictures of the beautiful view from our balcony, Martijn and Renske visiting, Judith’s birthday party, our trip to the Cameron Falls with Martijn and Renske and more.

    Enjoy! 🙂
