Introduction
Today is the last day of this year. Roughly, one could say Judith and I are halfway our adventure. 3 days from now we’ll be in a plane to The Netherlands for Christmas, New Year and visiting a lot of friends. A good moment to reflect on what this adventure has brought us so far.
Qualitative results
As a scientist, it always hard to quantify qualitative results. Maybe one shouldn’t do so. They are so vague and hard to categorize. However, we have a nice place to live, we have travelled quite a bit around Yellowknife, we took some very nice pictures, we had dozens of nice things we have done in Yellowknife. We have never been bored a second….. we made a few good friends. But that is all hard to put in numbers.
Quantitative results
See, that easier for me. I won’t bore you all with the amount of pictures we took, the number of times we went out for a nice dinner or whatsoever, but I thought it would be nice to show you all what I have done so far when it comes to teaching.
Since I returned to Yellowknife with my work permit, there have been 29 possible days on which I could have worked. I have worked 19 out of those (66%). Pretty neat if you’d ask me! I have taught for 68 periods, or 5780 minutes, or 96,33 hours. I have taught 25 different subjects. (Note that Science in Grade 9 and Science in Grade 10 are considered different subjects in my approach, same with all other subjects)
So to give a general overview of those 68 periods, I used my administration to make a nice diagram out of it:

Since my main expertise is within the Science subjects, I made a nice diagram with just the different Science subjects:

And to give a total view of all the subjects I have worked in (I could not resist doing this):

Before I could teach, I visited a lot of classes just to watch how classes were taught in Canada. And on the days I have not been supply teaching, I made a habit out of going to school and help out on some classes (voluntarily). I will add one more diagram to show my efforts in that as well:

Conclusion
So, looking back at everything, I am quite happy with the amount of hours I taught and the amount of hours I have been at Sir John Franklin High School. For the sake of completeness: one of the two hours I supplied in Phys Ed. (Physical Education) was at St. Patricks High School….. just so you all know.
